Our new normal...
It has been 6 weeks since our accident and we are starting to settle into our new 'normal'. Here's a quick update:
On Friday, August 13 we were finally able to fly home! Mom was able to come back to Calgary with us, we never would have been able to do it without her. We had so much luggage, Molly, Caleigh, I was basically useless, and Matt was not able to do alot either. Mom was able to help us through the airport and was a huge help. Matt's parents picked us up from the airport in Calgary, and they had cleaned up our house and bought groceries. Mom stayed with us until Sunday, and we were very sad to see her go.
On Tuesday, August 17, we had follow up appointments with our GP in Calgary, who was going to get the ball rolling regarding our treatment and to review all of the reports from the hospital in Saskatoon. Matt mentioned to the doctor that his back was really sore, and at that time he told us that Matt has 2 fractures in his back. We were completely shocked, and when we told him that we were unaware of this, he immediately ordered to have the tests redone. He confirmed that there was compression fractures on L1 and L2. He ordered several other tests as well, and referred us to several specialists.
On August 19, I woke up and was bleeding. We decided it was pretty serious so we went to Foothills. After several tests, they determined that I had placental previa, a placental tear, and a subchorionic hemotoma which is basically blood clots in the uterus. There is a very high risk of pre-term labour, so we really need to take it easy so this baby stays inside for a little longer. Among all of this very heavy news, we also found out that we are expecting a little boy! We couldn't be any happier! We have been going to see the OB every week, and went for follow up ultrasounds since this time and everything seems to be progressing. The baby is growing and very active, and seems to be tolerating the clots quite well.
Caleigh has been dealing with some Post Traumatic Stress since the accident. She has been having terrible nightmares and some problems sleeping at night. We have been trying to keep her schedule and her routine as close to 'normal' as possible. We have been trying to adjsut our lives to ensure that we are always there for her, no matter what time of night she needs us!
Matt has had his xrays redone since returning to Calgary, and has recently had another CT scan. He was referred to Caleo Health, which is a private back clinic in Calgary. They have been fabulous. We are both going to be able to go to Caleo for our rehab as well! I think it will be really motivating for each other to do rehab together!
I have recently been able to remove my cast, which has been great! It is still a little sore, but feels much better without the cast! The OB is feeling a little better about the clots, and I have another ultrasound at the end of the month. The ribs are a little sore still, and this baby is getting bigger and stronger, and he kicked me the other night right in the rib. It was quite painful, and I'm sure it will just get worse as this baby gets bigger and bigger! It is tough, but we are just so happy that this little guy is growing and strong, I will take it for a few more months!
We have had so much love and support from our friends and family since the accident. My mom has flown out twice to help us, and Devin, Angie and Ashton drove out for a long weekend to give us a hand as well. Matt's parents have been in a couple times to help with Caleigh and the house. We have had friends and neighbours drop off food and baking. It has been absolutely amazing to see how far people have some to help us, and we are very grateful for everything. Matt and I were talking just the other night about how we don't even have the words to describe how it feels to have people like that in our lives.
We love you all and thank you very much,
M&J&C&M

Hi. It was kind of you not to include who helped Matt with the electrical, which failed inspection. Again, I enjoy reading your Blog. Take Care, Mom
