The Proposal...

During my time in Asia I found it hard to be away from Jenn everyday. Talking to her on the phone each day or night was truly the highlight of my day. After spending a few hundred dollars on phone cards I realized that Jenn was the most important person in my life and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Being in a foreign country and working under difficult conditions was hard enough but each day her encouraging words and love renewed my spirit, pushing me through to a new day. Despite the difficulties of being seperated by half of the globe during a stressful time, I felt Jenn's dedication and commitment to me and that was a true blessing for me.

On my first weekend back to Canada Jenn and I went to Banff for the day and enjoyed a nice walk up to Johnston's Canyon Falls. I had the ring in my backpack and was acting a little neurotic the whole day about having my bag with me at all times. The time and place had been set but getting there seemed to take an eternity. After a nice dinner Jenn and I found ourselves on the summit of Sulphur Mountain. In God's presence and a sunset over the peaks the Rocky Mountains I asked Jenn to marry me. She said Yes! Finally, I was home and it was time to show Jenn my commitment to her...

And baby makes three...

Matt and I have spent some wonderful time together. Movies and long walks during the week, and weekends in Banff and Radium. On June 22, Matt left for Malaysia to do a practicum for his Disability Studies degree. Having him gone was a very difficult time for us both, but this was also when we realized how much we wanted to be together forever. We stayed in touch via e-mail and very expensive daily phone calls, but I missed having my best friend around every day. During this time, I started to feel 'under the weather'. This continued for a few weeks before Matt started asking if I was pregnant. I continually said no, as I have been told for many years by several specialists that I would never be able to conceive a child. On my way home from work on July 17, I decieded to stop at my local drugstore to pick up an at-home pregnancy test, knowing that Matt would call shortly and ask again if I was pregnant. I was going to prove him wrong! The first test came out positive, but I didn't believe it so I went back to the store to buy a second test. When this test came out positive, I still didn't know if I believed it. I decided to head back to the store to buy a third pregnancy test! I was paying for the third pregnancy test in 15 minutes (the clerk thought I was crazy!) when Matt called. I didn't know what to say, so I just blurted it out. I don't think he knew how to respond, as we had both come to terms with the idea of adoption down the road. The next morning I went to see my family doctor, who confirmed the pregnancy. Matt and I have truely been blessed with a miracle baby, one that we never dreamt we would be able to have. We are now over 15 weeks along, with a due date of January 30, 2006. I am very fortunate not only to have found such a wonderful man, but to be starting a family as well.

In the beginning...

In the beginning, there were two. The two of us met at Jenn's secondary place of work and Matt's favorite watering hole, Moose McGuire's Pub in Calgary. Although we had several casual encounters over time at the pub, we never really had a chance to talk one-on-one. Then one evening I arrived at the pub after a long day of sunshine and snowboarding in the Alberta Rockies and made my move! I may have been in the sun too long that day because my strategy backfired and I ended up offending Jenn instead of sweet talking her! For the next two weeks I was sensing some cold shoulders from the fiesty blonde server at the "Moose" and realised I had some ground to make up in order to get her talking again. Luckily my birthday came shortly after and another evening at the pub put the two of us in close proximity once again. Once again I failed in making amends for my past mistake when I asked her "Are we were still fighting?" and she replied "Heck yes!" A few nights later I sat down with her and made it clear that I didn't want to fight anymore and apologies were exchanged. In a desperate attempt at redemption, I explained to Jenn that all great relationships start out bad and end up amazing. She laughed in my face and the rest is history! We survived our first fight and we weren't even a couple yet! It was not the conventional way of courting but equally as effective. The next few months saw Jenn and I getting to know each other and spending every spare moment together. Now you know the story of how this amazing couple came to be...
