Welcome to our blog! We wanted to keep a record of our adventures and keep in touch with our friends and family that live in other cities. Matt was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta and Jennifer was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Molly joined our family in January 2007, Caleigh was born in July 2008, and Miller was born in January 2011. Since then, we have been very busy raising our family and having a little fun along the way!

Caleigh Grace Husband

Welcome Caleigh Grace Husband!!!

Matt and I got a phone call from the Labor & Delivery ward at Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, July 22 at about 8:00pm asking us to be there within the hour! We were so excited and scared at the same time! Well, I was at least ;) We called Auntie Amanda who came over right away to watch Molly for the night, we grabbed our bag and we were off!

We arrived at the hospital, got admitted, and up to the ward around 9:00pm. We then had a little bit of a wait while they monitored me and the baby, and waited for a doctor to arrive, as well as the anesthesiologist. Turns out I was already having contractions when we arrived! The doctors came by and gave me an epidural and a nerve block for my back at about midnight. Then they started the pitocin to induce labour and broke my water. Matt and I tried to get some sleep, but neither of us was very successful. Around 3:00 Matt asked the nurse if he had time to go get something to eat and a cup of tea. The nurse said that we were in the very early stages of labour and that he had lots of time. Shortly after he left, the doctor came in to check me for the first time since they began the induction. I was 10cm and ready to start pushing! I was a little worried that Matt wouldn't make it back in time! He barely walked back into the room and we were in full swing!

Caleigh Grace arrived on Wednesday, July 23 at 3:50am weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces. They were a little worried about her breathing, as she never had a big cry after delivery. They brought in some doctors who decided that they wanted to watch her a little closer for a while. They took her to the NICU, ran some tests and did a chest x-ray. She still had some fluid in her lungs and an air pocket between her left lung and her chest cavity. They decided to simply monitor her to see if she could work it out herself before administering any medication. It was a little scarey to see her with an IV and so many monitors, but after almost 24 hours, they released her! It was a great feeling to be able to walk out of the NICU with her!

They released us on Thursday, July 24th at about 11am. The maternity ward at Foothills is a very busy place, and both my doctor and I agreed that I would be better off at home. Matt very proudly walked out of the maternity ward with a baby in one hand, and balloons in the other. We spent the day feeding Caleigh formula as my milk had not come in yet, and trying to figure out what we were supposed to do next. Typical of first time parents! That night Auntie Amanda, Nana Nora and Grandpa Husband came by to see the new addition.
On Friday, Grandma & Grandpa Garner came to meet Caleigh. Grandpa stayed until Sunday, and Grandma stayed with us all week. We were very lucky! She definitely got us on our feet, I don't know what we would have done without her! She did laundry, made meals, and helped get to all of my appointments. Matt had to go to Edmonton and Regina that week with work, so it was a life saver that she was able to help us. I still don't know how we will ever thank her for everything she did for us.

Thursday was my birthday! Grandma was able to babysit while Matt took me out to dinner. It was a really nice night! When we got home, mom had found time during babysitting to bake a cake! Can you believe it?!?!? What a great birthday! The next day was mom's birthday, so we took her out for supper. It was a pretty boring birthday for her as we were in bed by 9:30. We'll have to make it up to her soon.
I will try to keep posting at least once a week with some new photos.
We can't wait to see all of you soon,
Jenn & Matt & Caleigh & Molly
